A graduate of Michigan State University and NYU’s Tisch School Of The Arts, Walton has a deep passion for arts education. She founded The Black Art Library, “a collection of books on Black visual art (children’s books, exhibition catalogs, biographies, etc.) intended to be an educational resource to share within the Black community and Asmaa Walton created the Black Art Library in 2020 to fill the gaps she witnessed in many mainstream art history curricula and museum collections.. She began researching and collecting books by and about Black visual artists, including painters and photographers, and then posting the collection on Instagram. Black Art Library started as a Black History Month experiment where Asmaa Walton would post the covers of anthologies and art books from Black visual culture.
